hi, I've just created an asdf plugin for zed: https://github.com/vad/asdf-zed . It works on my linux machine and tests run on mac amd64. arm64 should work but not tested (yet)

Bash tooling for version management of lots of programs. In some cases it wraps exisitng tools (python uses pyevn, ruby uses rbenv) but its all plugin based and super helpful for quickly switching versions of apps like terraform or documenting versions via its .tool-versions file which works something like direnv. And you can just run

asdf install

in a directory with a tool versions file and it will Do The Right Thing. Really great ecosystem. Very useful tool.

you're welcome! well, it's my first plugin, but it's super easy, I think it took me ~1 hour. There's a template you can clone and a bash script to generate most stuff

i'll go back and watch the video of the talk when it is posted but I'm curious about a comment early on about the DSL structure -- is it optimized specifically for deserialization in Go? zero / low allocation or some such behavior?

its compiled into a tree of protocol buffer messages

those are optimized for low allocation and minimal deserialization time, and then we cache them on top of it, since they are immutable for a specific point in time

@User the schema parsing itself only occurs right now on the WriteSchema call; its stored in the type checked and serialized format after that point for faster access
