Yes, I figured it would have to do with something like that indeed. At this stage though for a set of 30k values I'm seeing the same performances doing the query with the hard coded list of ids than I would with the normal SQL query so I'm not seeing the value of switching just yet. I guess there is a threshold at which it becomes very clear that it is worth making the switch.
